Desiring the Bread of Life
Reflection for the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle B
The Gospel today highlights the Eucharist, the Bread of Life which is Christ himself. It is this bread come down from Heaven that we are to hunger for.
But like the Israelites did with Moses and with God, we murmur amongst ourselves. We want our own favorite foods, our favorite sins, and our own way to God.
But there is only one way and it is Christ himself. In him and through him we have eternal life.
But do we desire the bread he offers?
Are our desires centered on that bread?
And if they are not centered on Christ and the Eucharist, what do we turn to instead? What do we need to cut out of our life?
May our desires be centered on the true Bread of Life, Christ himself, this week.
We also celebrate today in the Dominican world, the Solemnity of Our Holy Founder St. Dominic. Please enjoy this composition of the Magnificat which Br. Matthew-Paul Grote, OP, composed for the Province of St. Albert the Great for the Feast.
May St. Dominic guide you to always speak to God and about God.
